Hell Chef

In this fast-paced puzzle game, you are a pastry chef making desserts for customers, trying to serve everyone in line before the timer runs out. You must figure out the ingredients for each dessert order with nothing but a riddle and the number of ingredients. Make all the desserts in time to keep your customers happy and progress to the next level… or risk your shop being closed for good.

Challenge #1

Our game was a bit difficult for some people and we had to find places to modify it without losing the integrity of the game.

  • Ensured that our ingredient images communicate the texture/consistency of the ingredient to help with language barriers.

  • Underlined the key words for the riddle.

Challenge #2

The playtest confirmed the need for positive reinforcement during gameplay.

  • Went ahead with our idea to incorporate cookie outlines on the top of the screen that get filled in each time a riddle is solved.

  • Rewarded players further with an additional 10 seconds of gameplay if they got the riddle correct on the first try. (Also helps with timing challenge.)

Rewards

Instantly get a cookie filled in when you complete an order, plus 10 extra seconds every time you complete an order on the first try!
